this was recommended to me by a friend who likes animation and after finding out that this is actually available on youtube, i figured it was time to watch it.
if you're into film, you've probably heard the phrase "every frame a painting" before. with the old man and the sea, that's quite literal; every single frame was painted by hand, by a single guy, on glass.
because of that, it looks totally different than pretty much everything else i've seen. and of course, you wouldn't really create this sort of thing if you weren't an amazing artist so it also looks absolutely gorgeous.
if i gave ratings purely for technical achievements, this would be an easy 10/10.
but unfortunately, this is an adaptation of a story i don't really like. i won't get into the reasons why - hemingway is already massively over-analyzed - but let's just say i have issues with it.
so, for the first time ever, i'm putting my recommendation stamp on something rated 6/10 because even though i kind of dislike the story, this is more than worth your 20 minutes because of the incredible animation technique.
