Context:
I loved every Nolan movie I watched and personally I am the targer audience of Nolan. I love the drama he explores and I'm patient enough to take in the exposition and the building up towards the drama. I didn't know much about Oppenheimer. Just that he created the atom bomb and he regrets it. So I did wonder how a biopic would fit into the Drama of Nolan and his non linear storytelling.
Review:
This movie just adds to my belief that I will never be disappointed by a Nolan film. To start off, the acting, the editing, the pacing, the visuals and the sound etc all the technical aspects are on point. This is like a character study of Oppenheimer and we see him in two different perspectives. We see the trials post war reflecting upon the times at Los Alamos where they made the bomb.
It has a lot of politics involved and that adds so much to the drama in the lifeof Oppenheimer. It was very clear why Nolan chose this story and why he said Oppenheimer has the most dramatic life. Considering i didn't know much I was pleasantly surprised learning all these things. I didn't know that Oppenheimer is a jew and Heisenberg helped Hitler make a bomb and the communist association of Oppenheimer etc.
I don't want to say much but the movie is Beautiful. This is Cinema to me
By the end you leave conflicted about the way Oppenheimer is remembered. This other perspective which js shown in Black and White is shown from the lens of Robert Downey Jr. And I thought he would have a small role but damn did he nail it!
There's this sequence in the end a monologue of RDJ and A trial scene of Cilian both shown simultaneously although they are not happening at the same time (Nolan's non linear story telling fits perfectly for the narrative that this movie is going for). This scene makes you conflicted , will definitely haunt you and make you think about the whole movie for much longer time after watching it.
To end,
I just love Nolan 🛐
