trying my best to put childhood nostalgia aside, i can safely say that toy story 2 still holds up.
like most other kids growing up at the time, there was a certain point in my life where this film was almost always on in our living room dvd player. it was incredibly rewarding to revisit this after what must've been a decade of absence from my mind.
unlike many other childhood favorites, the enjoyment i get out of the film doesn't end at remembering certain moments and the memories conjoined to them.
the animation, plot, and comedy are all heightened in their scale without ever coming off as a boast. the new characters never feel like an intrusion to the story, and the themes explored aren't recycled or rehashed. the sequel builds off the already highly regarded 1995 original and improves it in almost every way. the typical sequel structure audiences have come to grow familiar with is perfectly executed by lasseter.
pixar furthers their start-up empire with a sequel to a modern classic all while satisfying audiences with a balanced story and unique concepts. oh to go back to this time...
