it is really dull for 90% of its runtime. there are a couple decent moments like the opening land rush or a few of the speeches, but most of the film is a drag. the sound mixing is absolutely atrocious, dialogue is hard to hear over the background noise. richard dix gives a big, boisterous performance that is remarkably bland. he is definitely acting to the back row and it really doesn't work great here. irene dunne gives a much more restrained and effective performance that really carries the film as much as it can. much has been made about the racism in the film, but i thought that was the... read more
