2023's Plane is a pretty great action flick about a father (Gerald Butler) working with a wrongfully-accused convict after their plane crashes in a war zone to stop pirates that kidnapped the entire group. It's hard not to compare this to 'Shotgun Wedding' especially as I had watched it the night before. The cast here is sort of good but Butler was underwhelming. The character just hadn't had enough of a character for somebody who is fighting to get back home to his daughter. Plane is directed by Jean-François Richet and the movie is just so fun to watch that it exceeded my expectations for something like this. Is this gonna be the best movie of 2023? No. Is it a fun time at the movies? Absolutely. Gerard Butler is probably the best part of this movie, he plays the flight captain well enough while also keeping the qualities of the usual action hero character too. Overall, Plane is a fun experience because it feels fresh while keeping what you love from the action movies similar to this. After crash-landing on a remote Filipino island, an airline pilot with a military past sets out to save his passengers from the local terrorists who have captured them for ransom.
