about time saving private ryan meets starship troopers on groundhog day. the girl (& boy) who leapt through time in jeanne d'arc-form may seem bumbling at first, but as the movie drags on-and-on infinitesimally closer to ad-infinitum, i couldn't help absorbing the protagonists' sense of interminable deja vu. at least wolvie only had to do it once. the cheesy ending is sweet though, cobra-yoga pose meeting boyish-grin on a way-too-wrinkled face -- proving that turning back the clock, no matter how many times, can't reverse age-lines. read more

the best film about gaming that has ever existed and possibly will ever exist. repeating an event continuously until you get it right is something i recognise from many hours of gaming. prince of persia being an example that springs readily to mind. there's a wonderfully rich vein of dark humour prevalent throughout the film. whether it's small things like cruise's facial expression as blunt puts the gun to his head for the nth time or when he just gives up saving the 'naked' commando and lets it happen. the obvious parallels with groundhog day are worth noting. such as the fact you never read more

while not so original in it's basically ideology, edge of tomorrow is pretty original in it's execution. it also has tom cruise's best performance in years. doug liman is a great director and here he really struts his stuff. he has assembled a great team that has created a wonderful look to the film all the way from it's special effects to it's cinematography. and it's funny too. very funny. it's also dramatic. and action packed. and filled with great performances and a very old looking bill paxton. it's not the best movie ever but it's a solid action, sci-fi spectacular that i can say that... read more

ok, i seem to be a simple minded person based on the fact i like this flick reeking of popcorn and a pretty basic action cinema formula mixing groundhog day with "every futuristic sci-fi shooter movie". right, that doesn't sound like (re)inventing the wheel but it is a solidly acted piece of movie that is just fun!!! and the main actors can carry it with their really likeable sympathetic performances you just have to be very cool with. i don't know what it is with cruise - he should be the guy to dislike or maybe at least make you shake your head thinking about oprah-couch-jumping-incidents... read more

blunt and cruise were fantastic, but this thing's real strength is the smart script, and that's going to be hard for any sequel to duplicate... coming up on groundhog day this year, so time to give this a rewatch. having seen it before was the biggest factor to how i appreciated the film this time, but also having recently watched palm springs, which i loved. i confess, i'm a sucker for a well-done sci-fi concept. and i remember when palm springs first came out, all the critics were like "the real genius of this film is that it departs from groundhog day by adding another person into the time... read more

Edge of Tomorrow is directed by Doug Liman and the movie is good but it has a few minor issues. Emily Blunt should have been given more lines in the script and I would have preferred to have more character development with Tom Cruises character. The last quarter of this film is a bit of a disappointment because I felt the 3rd act could have been a little bigger in scope and had some more explanation about the Omega in the film too.
