the revenant. one of my most anticipated films of the year. did it live up to the hype i had built up? pretty much, yeah, it did. sure it wasn't my favourite film of the year but it was impeccably made, incredibly tense and really well acted. leo deserved the oscar for this role. the shit he does for the part is just insane. hardy is, as always, awesome here although at times his thick accent is almost impenetrable. and then there is domhnall gleeson, who was in everything this year and you can see why. the revenant is a film about revenge, about the frontier, about family, about loyalty. it... read

direction and, especially, cinematography - cinematic perfection. no green screen, all natural light (except one scene), pen-dropping shots that you think you could watch forever. sadly, it feels that way too, as everything else = interminable slog; at 2 and a half hours, the boredom overwhelmed the beauty for me. oscars controversies and irrelevance aside, it makes sense to me that it won what it did, yet not best picture. i wanted to enjoy it more than i did, and the rating reflects my respect for it as a visual tour de force more than my watching experience. to a proportionally lesser read

the revenant is a decent 'mountain man' movie and leo does a fine job playing hugh glass. it's a quiet movie in that there's a lot of scenes with no dialog. in the end i feel the film was overly long and the ending is a little bit anticlimactic. after investing 2.5 hours it seemed the end just wasn't as satisfying as i hoped. still... a good film if you're into this kind of thing. read

the sheer force, insistence, and commitment that the revenant shows when attempting to portray a muddied celebration of hegemonic masculinity drowns out the complexity that could have made this a compelling and beautiful meditation on revenge and the importance of family. in fact, the film only works when it gets out of these moments and settles in on quieter notes that showcases some brilliant cinematography from emmanuel lubezki and threatens to reach a level of sublime beauty before losing any emotional complexity by cutting to a sequence of brute force masculinity before it reaches that... read

alejandro iñárritu's the revenant is a stunningly attractive and crafted film that would have been undeniably among the best few films of the year if it had paid just a bit more attention to its story. leonardo dicaprio delivers some truly fantastic, committed work as hugh glass, the trapper and guide who finds himself betrayed and trying to survive after a bear attack. the supporting cast is also top-notch, particularly tom hardy as the villain. iñárritu and cinematographer emmanuel lubezki concoct some truly gorgeous visuals and the score from ryuichi sakamoto, alva noto and bryce dessner... read

i do not like inarritu. the guy does not subscribe to subtlety, or simply having a sense of humor. however, this was to me the most tolerable of his movies. not that that's saying much because i'm usually not capable of finishing them. but at least for the revenant he let the visuals do a lot of the talking... even if it drags. suspension of disbelief score: 3 out of a 4 possible weekend at bernies. read

as a technical achievement™ this is an easy 9 or 10 out of 10 as a film with a pretty cookie-cutter story that is spread over two and a half hours, this struggles to be a 6 and since i do in fact believe that story is the most important part of pretty much any storytelling medium, i'm going to give this a 7 as a middle ground between a disappointing story and breathtaking filmmaking. read

I remember in my senior year of high school, there was a rumor going around that Leo gets raped by a bear in this film. The fuck?
I enjoyed the film. Awesome cinematography. Seriously insane what achieved here. The chase and battle scenes are very impressive. Actors go through literal frozen hell. No artificial lighting just nature. It's very brutal, people get fucking dismembered. Whoever worked on that did an excellent job. Leo is good here, I'd say he deserved the Oscar. Tom Hardy is a bit difficult to understand but when isn't he. It's definitely improves on later viewing once you know... read

I have been planning to watch the particular movie for four years but had to hold back due to mood differences. Recently, I finally watched the movie with high expectations, considering all the positive feedback I had heard over the years. However, after viewing the movie with great attention and focus, I must say that it did not meet my expectations. Although the acting was excellent, and the scenery and places were great, the narration and the story's presentation could have been better. The narrative was poorly executed, and it failed to capture my interest. Simply put, if you read more Was this review helpful to you?

One of the best DiCaprio films of all time. This was also the best individual performance of acting I have ever seen in a film. The cinematography was perfect. The camera work is so amazing. Finally Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar award, Although he would have won it for Inception or Blood Diamond or Shutter Island or The wolf of wall street. The Revenant is simple masterpiece. Beautiful film. Superb film.. Brilliant acting.. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 read
