Почему всё вдруг стали невъебаться постмодернистами, стебут все и вся, а не могут сделать фильм, где супергерои тупо чилят, шутят, делают прикольные хуйни и просто сидят пердят. entertaining film that is ok to good but not great. a lot of moments are laugh out loud funny while others fall flat. the tonal shifts are jarring and the film feels like it doesnt quite know what it wants to be. the pacing is horrible and crawls at an infants pace for the first half. its worth your time but just rent it. read more

Not really a surprise, but here it is, yet another flop from DC. Don't get me wrong, I love many of their comics, they have a lot of awesome heroes and I just love what The CW does with their licenses. On big screen, though, it's one failure after another for DC. As much as I liked the idea about Ben Affleck playing batman, his script was a joke, Henry Cavill's Superman totally ruined the character in every single way possible, that crazy guy Ezra... don't even make me start with how huge that humiliation was to The Flash fans... etc, etc, etc. Ah, and there was that Suicide Squad thing.... read more

honestly, before zachary levi shows up it really sucks, but from then on, it is fantastic. it is a goofy, ridiculous movie that hits all the right beats to be a really fun watch. levi's comedic timing is spot on and they return to jokes without ever running them into the ground. it even manages to have really genuine heartfelt moments. the side characters start out as annoying, one-note cliches, but they develop into endearing characters as the film progresses. it would have been nice if the seven deadly sins had more identifiable designs. the only one that i could connect to the sin was read more

for my money this is the most successful dc movie. basically gets rid of everything they were trying to do without ever going full deadpool, but all in on the kind of heart you'd find in chris columbus movies from the 80's. everyone who complains about something like the rocketeer being criminally underrated is not allowed to sleep on this. shazam! read more

a hilarious, exciting, and heartfelt superhero adventure that doesn't compromise on any front. shazam! is as dedicated to making you laugh as it is to delivering thrilling set pieces and authentic emotional beats that manage to ground the story far more effectively than even muted colors and a hans zimmer score could. no lie, i had a lot of fun watching this movie. drastically different from past dc movies, shazam! is a really great break from it all to just focus on a kid becoming a superhero. i usually don't like origin stories, but this one was a lot different because it wasn't the usual get powers, start doing good. billy just wanted to do what he wanted, superpowers or not. he just used his powers to get what he wanted until he had to actually fight evil, and he ran. he lost his biological family and gained a new family. he learned what it meant to actually be a hero. also, loved seeing all of the read more

i went into this with lowered expectations, and the film might have just managed to meet them. at this point, when most cinephiles see a dc film, they're expecting some light torture, so to have a mostly pleasant movie gives this an artificial star bump. but humble letterboxders, i submit to you that this is not a very good movie.
