I wish I could say, "Hey dude, 'cowabunga' says it all!" when asked what I thought of this film. However, as relevant, goofy, and as perfect of an answer that would be, it wouldn't exactly be accurate. quick hit: is it a good movie? no. teenage mutant ninja turtles: out of the shadows has what can generously be described as lazy storytelling and more than one iffy editing sequence. the acting is average at best and it's basically not a good movie by any technical standard. but it manages to do something the first movie couldn't: be fun most of the time. out of the shadows embraces its inherent ridiculousness and just goes with it. it helps that the film is brighter and sunnier this time around, which massively helps the action scenes. there's nothing wrong with a big, dumb action movie... read more

also known as tmnt: zoning out of the shadows. now, i am the last person who's unable to enjoy a dumb movie, but this was just laborious. characters crippled by their "quirks," if you can even call it that at this point. tiring, adhd action set pieces. uninspired, predictable writing & jokes. ugh, i don't know man... this is just straight up poochie level. some people are saying they like that the focus has shifted from megan fox to the turtles, but what does it matter who the focus is on if the writing is this shit? i kid you not early on in the movie april dresses up as a school girl to read more

the 2014 ninja turtles was kind of a big deal for me, not that i gave a crap about it when it came out. it looked ugly and excessive in every imaginable way, but i eventually had a change of heart and decided to at least give it a shot. if it sucked, it sucked, but at least i found out for myself. lo and behold, it didn't suck. it was deeply flawed, sure, but it didn't suck. it was fun! much to my surprise, i really, genuinely enjoyed it. it was stupid and silly, but it also managed to capture what i loved best about the franchise. so how would it's sequel fare? well, to be honest, it fared... read more

A sequel to the reboot of the live-action version of a TV cartoon based on the action figures spawned from a semi-underground series of comic books. TMNT's fans should find all they expect: spectacular CGI action, juvenile wisecracks, an ADHD-proof storyline and Megan Fox as a treat to older brothers bringing their little siblings to the theater. Even if you are not within the age target, the extended action scene on the Iguaçu falls might still be worth some of your while. read more
