watched the 4k hdr extended edition. this movie absolutely stands the test of time. and i'm stunned by how good the 4k version looks. it is insane. it still looks the same way i remembered them as a kid, if not even better. i still think though that the cinema cut is better paced than the extended edition. read more

this film gets the most thankless task of the trilogy, it has to introduce the world of middle earth before it can really get started and that is something that could easily be very dull. they are able avoid those pitfalls by mixing the exposition with the magical aspects of the world-building and being able to see such incredible material on screen. there really isnt much i can really add on my 10th viewing. watched as part of scavenger hunt 46 task #29: watch a trilogy my list | caleb_yells's master list read more

it's hard for me to really watch a movie in one sitting because of my adhd. unless i'm at the theater i'll find myself pausing it a lot and feeling overstimulated. this rarely has anything to do with the quality of a movie it's just something i've struggled with and has grown worse over time. fellowship of the ring had me completely glued to the screen the entire runtime. with the exception of a brief break in between changing discs out i sat there the whole time just completely engaged and immersed with it. i cannot tell you how happy that makes me. read more

Amazon released teaser posters for their upcoming series and it got me itching to watch LoTR yet again. Fellowship of the Ring is easily my most-watched film ever. This was my first watch of the theatrical version in a long time. Extended edition. Couldn't tell for the life of me what isn't in the theatrical, mostly because it's been years since I saw them but certainly none of it seems like it doesn't fit in. It's still an amazing, highly accessible, technical phenomenom but it also felt like I was binging a series rather than watching a movie, whereas I remember the theatrical feeling more conventional.
