interesting choice for steven soderbergh to make this film after his one, two, three, four punch of cinematic gold titles. here he harkens back to out of sight for a heist film to outdo all heist films. it fails in many ways and succeeds in one. it isn't a bad film, not even close to being a bad film and people seem to love it; it did get two sequels after all. i personally was never that enraptured by it and watching it again i felt exactly the same way. for me what makes this movie work and what makes it enjoyable and what is the one way that this movie becomes one of the better heist films... read more

a mechanical story mostly overshadowed by the lively construction of the heist. it's a shame ocean's central story falls flat but the characters at least retain a surface personality-level appeal. the film's clearly having fun - soderbergh's distinguished direction, the editors going wild, the cast's charismatic performances - and they get the audience in on it too. read more

one of my all time favorites. it is well constructed and just so much fun. the pacing is great, the scene transitions are perfect, the characters are memorable, and most of all it is clear everyone involved had fun making this movie. this is one of the few films that is truly endlessly rewatchable. read more

on the one hand, the feminist inside of me dislikes the whole "couple with clear issues gets back together after the girls new bf is The Worst" trope, on the other... i spent the whole movie gawking at george clooney so id have done the same. read more
