When I think about how much this movie had to deal with and accomplish - the sad death of Chadwick Boseman, the introduction of a secret underwater nation and its charismatic leader Namor, the first appearance of Riri Williams (who will be familiar to fans of the Marvel comics), and then the introduction of a brand new Black Panther - and the fact that it largely manages to pull off all of this and still be an entertaining movie in its own right, it makes me even more impressed with Ryan Coogler as a director.
Yes, it has its problems and is much too long (the Riri Williams storyline, which... read

I hate when people call the black panther movies a win for black people. I hate that they say that when there are African filmmakers, making films in several countries in Africa showcasing different aspects of that culture, some of which I'm sure are high quality films. The Black Panther movies are hollywood movies, made by a large media conglomerate who've made their live action Mulan movie in China supported by locations where Uighur Muslims are in internment camps, not to mention the main lead of the movie being in support of the police brutality against Hong Kong. These films use sound... read

pretty good save on a really weird direction the writers took. there were many little things i liked of this movie, the conclusion to the conflict feels silly and forced but the rest is all fine and we are used to this by this moment. also this was a memoir film so we got a good movie despite that. read

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is directed by Ryan Coogler and it isnt one of the best MCU movies to date but its a surprisingly good trip back to Wakanda.
I wasnt feeling the excitement before the release of this movie because I just felt our adventures in Wakanda wouldnt be same without Chadwick Boseman, as he was the best part of the first Black Panther movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by this movie for keeping me invested compared to my excitement beforehand.
You really feel the absence of the late Chadwick Boseman here in this movie, but I understand and respect that he is no read

As it celebrates the funeral of its leader T'Challa, the seclusive African kingdom of Wakanda faces the triple threat of American imperialism, a new aggressive claimant to the vacant throne, and an army of superhuman ocean dwellers led by a mighty water-breathing mutant. The tragically premature demise of Black Panther's protagonist Chadwick Boseman forced the Marvel Cinematic Universe to finally acknowledge death as a crucial part of any meaningful narrative and for once stop fiddling around with miraculous resurrections after any seemingly irreversible disaster. Entirely rewritten to read

I feel so good walking out of the theatre. What a beautiful, perfect, emotional, heartfelt, tribute to Chadwick Boseman. I genuinely cannot think of any nitpick, fresh off the movie, be it in the direction, production, visuals, action, acting, writing, it truly felt like Ryan Coogler's vision and not even close to Love and Thunder's atrocities. Tenoch Huerta was an absolute scene stealer as Namor, and Wright and Basset delivered emotional, poignant performances. This is all I'll say for now, I'll add more thoughts to this later.

I thought this was a really nicely done tribute to the loss of Chadwick Boseman. The emotional beats of the story really hit home and the tremendous loss is felt everywhere.
I really liked Namor's introduction, his characterization and playing off Mayan culture was really cool and different.
Angela Bassett's performance was probably the high point of the entire movie for me, as well as just the colors and different costumes everywhere.
Riri I wish had a bigger role, but I'm sure I'll get my fill during the Ironheart show. Would have been really cool if she got to do more, but I liked her... read

Black Panther meets Avatar, Aquaman, El Dorado and Dragonball (whole nation build around kamehameha).
It works great as an homage to Chadwick Boseman, but falls short when it tries to be a marvel movie. read

the highs are high but this movie has some serious pacing issues and lacks any sense of momentum for most of the runtime.
performances, action, characters, even the cgi (which is rare for marvel nowadays) is really good - this movie is jut too looong. in particular i feel riri wasn't really needed, she's not even on the posters but takes up what feels like a big chunk of the runtime. oh well, gotta set up the disney+ show... at least Namor fucks hard in this movie
note: the ufo beam works really well for the first scene in the movie, but my my when it starts abducting humans it looks very... read

Actually not too bad. I'm not very fond of the recent mcu stuff (I know, what a bold stance to make) but this was probably the best one to come out this year. Not to say it's amazing, kinda turned into the typical mcu slog for a decent portion of the movie but it was still good all things considered. The beginning and end were the best parts, and I do appreciate that it at least sorta tries to memorialize Chadwick Boseman. All in all I feel like I'll forget most of the plot from this movie in a matter of a couple moths, but I still enjoyed it read

I both never bought into the stakes and feel like Wakanda was in the wrong by dealing the first blow and never atoning for it, leading to the start of war. There's some great visuals (especially all the Wakandan ladies diving off the ship towards the end), Shuri has a solid arc, and the movie does Boseman's legacy right, but this one just didn't do it for me, especially with over a 2h30m runtime. I also didn't buy Riri's unflappable allegiance to Wakanda, particularly in the end battle, calling Wakandan soldiers "sis" like she's been with them for years. Just not my cup of tea overall. read

Beautifully shot with mature themes and creative decisions. Unlike many other Phase 4 projects.
However, I would've liked if they turned the mantel of the Black Panther into Wakanda instead of a person. Of course Shuri would be the face of it and would have a suit, but the official definiton of the mantel should be Wakanda.
It did have probably my favorite Marvel intro to date. read

easily the best marvel movie in what feels like a long while. i actually felt the passion this time around in just about every corner of this one. amazing performances across the board, and it made me cry multiple times which always elevates a movie for me. this suffers from some of the standard marvel third-act shenanigans, but i genuinely cant think of much else i dislike here. i wholeheartedly loved it. letitia wright, lupita nyongo, danai gurira, angela bassett, and tenoch huerta were incredible. i cant wait to see what else they do with namor and talokan. i also think this is the best... read
