if they decided to make this the first movie of universal's shared monster movie universe maybe the whole thing wouldn't have immediately failed. i wanted the "dark universe" to work so bad because of how ridiculous it sounded... but it really was a shit idea all along wasn't it? i'm glad we're getting standalone reboots now instead because i would have punched myself in the d if tom cruise showed his face in this. anyways, i loved this movie. i was so stressed out the first hour or so and there are some truly jaw dropping moments. for real jaw dropping! there's also a few moments that don't... read more

2020 may have been a year that seemed to never end, but it still doesn't seem like that long ago that universal's monster plans were in shambles. the dark universe petered out with the misguided the mummy and all the studios big plans for spinoffs looked dead in the water. One film critic called this film 'perfunctory'. Apparantly, that means having to do something as a formality, often in a careless way. So synonymous with 'a waste of time'. That's probably as good a description for this film as any. 'The Invisible Man' is actually a product of Universal's ambition to create a shared multiverse based on their Universal Classic Monsters. i don't usually like invisible man films or any of that, but i thought this was an okay film for what its premise was. it started off well but then it kind of felt like a lazy script had been written. the third act and the performance of elizabeth moss was what saved the film in my opinion. some people associate this film to the horror genre but i don't think there is enough horror elements to fit it in the genre read more

This movie was quite a surprise to me. I know it was quite well received and so it should be, its well made and above a lot of the other similar type films of this genre. a cross between "Hollow Man"and "Sleeping with The Enemy" I thought it had enough thrills to keep the horror/thriller fan happy. Elisabeth Moss carries the film ably supported by Aldis Hodge. Directed by Leigh Whannell who made the "Saw" film with his buddy James Wan. read more

More or less what I expected, some of the action sequences were a little goofy, but the moments of building tension and sheer dread was where The Invisible Man excelled. It's not as much scary as it is unnerving, but it seems that's that what it was going for. Predictable, typical "empowerment" message film. The "abused white woman" takes refuge with "strong black man" from the "abusive white man" and I'm the bad guy for noticing. Typical SJW anti white male rhetoric ruins most of the movie. Invisabilty in a confined space would be an epic fail. Memoirs of an Invisible man by John Carpenter did it better. It's good! I was so incredibly tense the whole time, the visual effects are very effective, and Elisabeth Moss is as great as usual. I don't think it would have worked nearly as well without her, but Leigh Whannell is also a pretty solid director. Has the dubious honor of being one of like, ten big theatrical releases in 2020.
