10/10 Context: I loved every Nolan movie I watched and personally I am the targer audience of Nolan. I love the drama he explores and I'm patient enough to take in the exposition and the building up towards the drama. I didn't know much about Oppenheimer. Just that he created the atom bomb and he regrets it. So I did wonder how a biopic would fit into the Drama of Nolan and his non linear storytelling. A truly dense film, as expected from all of Nolan's pretentiousness, the black and white scenes showing reality while the color ones showed under Oppenheimer's subjective view really got me immersed and reflecting, it almost kept me paying attention for the entire 3 hours. read more

Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing film, but I was Hella confused about what was going on for the first half of the film 😭😭 I'm guessing it would be much easier to follow if you were already somewhat familiar with the lore of the fella Robert. But I didn't know nothing so I couldn't tell when, where, and what was going on for at least the first third. Feel like we get a "stacked cast" movie every 3 months now but what makes this one so good is how the script allows so many of them to really nail their little moments. Damon and Safdie get so many zinger lines but there's also a ton of roles that only get one or two little moments, but the care is taken to make sure it's a really memorable/cool moment. Still wrapping my head around elements of it, a gigantic formal accomplishment. So glad Murphy gets to be a lead of a triumphant summer blockbuster. read more

I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone. It will definitely be boring for a LOT of people, and i think the first half hour of the movie will be guilty of lot of people dropping the movie. This is a movie where 75% of the film is about a room full of people discussing something, 3 hours of that is too much, and the first half hour is more about Robert past personal life. Once the movie reach the actual project Manhattan in Los Alamos things get a lot more interesting.

The acting is a perfect, Cillian Murphy & Robert Downey Jr are just a 10 out of 10 in this movie.

Robert Oppenheimer to life in a way that left me in awe, not that I knew anything about Oppenheimer prior, but I now feel I do. First off i must say i went into this with extremely high expectations, and i am aware it was a film about Oppenheimer, the man, not manhattan project or the atom bomb alone. However, from all the marketing and the trailers, i got the image that it would very heavily emphasize on the development of the atom bomb, which it did not. It took a very long time to get to the trinity test, and the science or problems they had were discussed for perhaps 5 minutes when they were debating on a detonation method. The boring world of Niels Bohr. For a 3-hour long movie on one of the most fascinating subjects (nuclear bomb, radiation) by one of the most well-regarded directors of our time, this was very underwhelming. It's such a by-the-numbers biopic with numerous cliches, and it fails to truly convey the horrors and majesty of a nuclear explosion or anything related to it. The last hour of the movie could've been completely thrown out, or compressed into 15 minutes. We get it, he was accused of communism and persecuted, do we need to see the court hearing on that? I would have appreciated this movie a lot more had I been more knowledgeable on the history surrounding the events that took place around that time and Oppenheimer himself.
